| GAME DAY: Who's got the edge between Alabama and Tennessee? Fri, 24 Oct 2008 20:52:00 CST Quarterback: Tennessee's Nick Stephens hasn't thrown an interception in three starts, but Alabama's secondary should be his biggest test to date, so give John Parker Wilson an edge because of experience. Running back: Alabama's trio of Glen Coffee, Mark Ingram and Roy Upchurch are hard to top, even when Coffee's been plagued by a rash of fumbles in the last two weeks. Receiving: Both are comparable, but Alabama's Julio Jones will be the best receiver on the field tonight and UT's Gerald Jones is sidelined with an ankle injury. Offensive line: Both teams have experienced players at four of the five positions, but Alabama has the conference's top-rated rushing attack. Defensive line: Tennessee likely would have the edge without Alabama nose tackle Terrence Cody sidelined by injury. The Vols have allowed just one rushing touchdown in the last 24 quarters. Linebackers: Ellix Wilson and Rico McCoy give the Vols a solid one-two punch similar to Alabama's duo of Rolando McClain and Dont'a Hightower. Give the Tide a slight edge based on jack linebacker Brandon Fanney. Defensive backs: Alabama's group is talented and good, picking off 10 interceptions this season, but the Vols have been even better, leading the nation with 14 picks. Special teams: PK Leigh Tiffin gives UA an edge at that position, but the Vols have all the weapons in the other departments, giving them the edge overall. Coach: Phillip Fulmer would have earned the edge, but the Vols have rarely been the same championship-caliber team since losing to Nick Saban's LSU team in the 2001 SEC Championship Game.
